Finding God’s renewal in the midst of sorrow
One might think that this five-letter word carries only one meaning, but it is as complex as it is simple. Fresh can mean unspoiled, as in a fresh loaf of bread. It can mean clean and crisp, like a fresh set of sheets. It can even describe sassy speech, as when a child is “being fresh.” And fresh can mean new — a new way of thinking, a new idea, something never old or stale.
God’s servant Job reminisced and reflected on his life before he was stricken with tragedy. He longed for the days when he could say, “my glory would remain fresh in me.” That is the newness I pray for all who are traveling this grief journey — that you will encounter the fresh anointing of God’s Spirit and experience His handiwork in a new, life-giving way.
Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to move forward and to embrace this change in my life with new acceptance, knowing that You are with me and guiding me along the way. Amen.
