Workshops and Breakout Sessions: Topics include self-care strategies, overcoming grief-related trauma, and rediscovering joy. Facilitators include licensed therapists, life coaches, and wellness practitioners.
Physical and Creative Activities: Daily yoga, guided meditation, and creative expression classes (e.g., art therapy, music therapy, and journaling workshops) to promote emotional release and mental clarity.
Teach-Back Model: A unique component where participants learn tools and techniques they can bring back to their communities, empowering them to support other widows.
Networking Opportunities: The retreat fosters connections among attendees, laying the foundation for long-term peer relationships and mutual support networks.
The Grief Corner – Online Resource Hub
Grief Corner is a dynamic online platform that combines education, connection, and empowerment for widows and their supporters. This resource hub is designed with accessibility in mind, ensuring ease of use across devices. Key features include:
Widow-Centered Resources: Articles, videos, and downloadable guides cover topics such as managing finance after loss, single parenting, and cultivating resilience.
Peer Education Tools: The “You Can’t Fix Me” series provides step-by-step
guidance for peers and family members on how to support grieving loved ones.
Topics include communication strategies, understanding grief behaviors, and dos and don’ts of offering help.
Expert-Led Webinars: Monthly live sessions on specialized topics, such as
trauma-informed care or coping during the holidays, led by grief and mental
health professionals.
Strength in Sorrow (S.I.S) – Support Group
Strength in Sorrow (S.I.S) offers professionally facilitated support groups tailored to widows at various stages of grief. Each group is limited to 8–12 participants to ensure an intimate, supportive atmosphere. Sessions are guided by grief coaches or trained facilitators with cultural competency to address the specific needs of widows of color.
The curriculum is modular, covering topics such as:
Understanding Grief Cycles: Teaching participants how grief evolves over time and strategies for managing its complexities.
Coping with Isolation: Building practical tools to address social disconnection and navigate changing relationships.
Reclaiming Identity: Exercises and discussions to help widows redefine
themselves beyond their grief and loss.
Participants receive workbooks and resource kits that include journal prompts, mindfulness exercises, and contact lists for further support services.
