Opening Scripture: Isaiah 26: 3– You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You
Reflection– There is a childbirth technique known as the Lamaze method that continues to be used
today. In this approach, women in labor, with the support of their partners, are guided to
engage in specific breathing exercises and purposeful movement. They are encouraged
to focus their attention on a particular image or scenario, which helps promote
relaxation and shifts their focus away from the pain of labor. Importantly, this technique
is practiced for several months before labor begins, allowing the mother to draw upon
these skills instinctively when the time comes.
The holiday season, encompassing November and December, can present significant
challenges for many people, especially for those who have experienced the loss of a
loved one. The return of familiar holiday traditions—such as seasonal scents, festive
music, or cherished holiday movies—can evoke memories that bring both happiness
and sorrow. When feelings of sadness seem overwhelming during this time, it can be
helpful to consciously redirect your attention to find relief. Focusing on what
remains—such as children, friends, family, or faith—may provide comfort, helping to
ease the pain of loss and enabling you to find moments of joy even as you grieve.
Encourage- Grief and life’s transitions can come in waves, sometimes catching us off guard and leaving us breathless. In those moments, it helps to remember that just as the body can be gently guided through pain, the heart can also find its way toward calm. When memories rise and sorrow feels close, you may find comfort in slowly turning your attention to what is still here — the people who love you, the connections that remain, and the faith that continues to hold you steady. This does not take the pain away, but it can make it more bearable. Over time, your heart learns where it can safely rest, making room for both tender remembrance and quiet peace to exist together.
Prayer– God of peace, when grief feels heavy and memories rise, help me steady my heart and return my focus to You. Teach me to breathe through this season, trusting that You are near even in moments of pain. Anchor my mind in what remains, strengthen me in what I carry, and grant me peace as I walk through this day.
Amen.
