Opening Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1– To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven
Reflection: Trina Paulus’s children’s book, “Hope for the Flowers” tells of a caterpillar seeking more
from life. Guided by an older caterpillar, it learns that every caterpillar has the potential
to become a butterfly. The transformation requires letting go of the old self, but brings
new purpose: as a butterfly, it pollinates flowers, sustaining life. Likewise, memories of
those who have gone before us can inspire and nurture us and we can do the same for
others. It may mean letting go of some things to make way for the new. The process
can be scary and uncertain, but the end result can also be rewarding. Don’t fret at the
cocoon stage of life. It prepares us for our butterfly future of brings hope to those we
encounter along life’s journey.
Encourage– If life feels uncertain or paused, take heart — this season is not a mistake. Like the caterpillar in its cocoon, you may feel hidden, uncomfortable, or unsure of who you are becoming, but God is still at work. Ecclesiastes reminds us that every season has its purpose, even the ones where growth happens quietly and unseen. You may be letting go of parts of life you never expected to release, and that loss is real. Yet within this space, God is gently preparing something new — shaping strength, compassion, and hope that will one day touch others along the way. You are not behind. You are not forgotten. You are becoming.
Prayer– Heavenly Father, You remind us that everything has its season and its purpose, even when we do not yet understand it. In this season of becoming, help me to trust the work You are doing within me.
When letting go feels frightening, give me the courage to release what was so You can shape what will be.
